ABOUT MICROWAVE

what is the point of microwave? we release music we love. music that we want other people to hear. microwave is not about making money.
we ask friends or bands we love to entrust us with some recordings: album already released or without money to be released on CD, selection of songs, or split-album with other artists, EP, demos, acoustic or live sessions...
we try to sell all our cds for only 5€ (about $7.6), postage paid. we still make enough money to realize new projects with subsaound, help the earth and people by musical charity actions, and release more music here.
making our own CDs, home-duplicated and packaged and eco-friendly, only cost us about 3€, postage and extra stuffs like stickers and inserts included! think about that the next time you buy a 15€ cd!

what do you do exactly? we duplicate your songs on CD albums and distribute your songs around the world with all our energy

what the fuck does "diy" mean? well, there are so much definitions in so much ways and everyone has their own opinion about this and no one is right or wrong. DIY stands for "Do It Yoursel". but DIY is more than words, its a way of life, its to be aware, to bypass the system and get back to the core meaning. such as, making your own records
don't try to fit into standards, take chances, go on tour to lands unknown with no money and no idea of what is out there. DIY means not having 30€ hooded sweatshirts. DIY means inviting your neigbours to an improvised gigs in your tiny flat. DIY is making the world a better place

where are you from? we are currently based near Paris, France -- but the distance in our times should not be a problem for anything

what music can be released by microwave? any style, from anywhere in the world, no matter your skills level or your knoledge about distribution/recording! you just got to fit our ideas and we got to love you and your songs! you just got to fit our ideas and we got to love you and your songs!

how does my band get signed? well, first off, nobody signs anything. we are all friends here ;) usually what happens is we see a band play somewhere and love them. then we hang out and we talk and become friends.we listento their demos or 7"s or whatever they have out and start thinking we should release something by that band... anyway feel free to present your music to microwave but don't send mp3 buy email please!

ABOUT MONEY

how come your cds are so cheap? most of the time, we duplicate, print and pack the cds at home. everything is handmade with great love and attention, just like the music on it! we sell cds 5€ and we split the benefit between the band and us: 1€ each. anyway even if we occasionnaly use professionnal duplication the costs are pretty the same: 1 cd (with prints, package, extras & postage) cost us 3€ to make

how did you get paid? all people at microwave/subsaound are non-profit and passionnate workers. we have jobs or studies (most of the time in music, communication, or medias businesses). the little money we get by selling cds is used by subsaound to realize new projects with subsaound, help the earth and people by musical charity actions, and release more music here
